On Statistics

Tonight's nugget of wisdom comes to us from Snapple, in the guise of "Real Fact" #912:

"Meteorologists claim they're right 85% of the time."

After my mind stopped reeling, I was able to spin at least three or four ways you could make that work.  To me, this further cements the concept that statistics are largely meaningless (88.3% of the time.)

On the other hand, we love to bitch about the weather report's accuracy, but it's entirely possible that we only notice when it's way off.

On yet another appendage, I don't think I can be bothered to care anymore.

As Nicholas Cage said in "The Weather Man", "It's... Wind!"

The mind reels...
